This is the part of the portfolio where we use a lot of words to talk about ourselves, right?
I'm from Feira de Santana, Bahia. That's an important piece of information because nine out of ten people from Feira hate being treated as if they were from Salvador. Feira de Santana doesn't have beaches, our carnival is in April, it's not a touristy city, and it's hot as hell. I'm the son of a seamstress turned street vendor and a painter. My mom says I'm quite handy. I can do a bit of cross-stitch and thread a serger machine, but if you want your pants hemmed, you might want to find someone more experienced in that department.
I studied Journalism, but before that, the plan was to study design. I also did a semester of industrial automation and studied web design during my teens. Different? Well, I've done a bit of everything in life: sold clothes as a street vendor in downtown Feira; painted houses, apartments, and offices with my dad; worked as a telemarketer; got caught up in a pyramid scheme once; covered shifts at an internet café, and even sold snacks at college to afford the bus fare. Advertising is the least random field I've worked in.
I started writing my first literary works when I was seventeen. I've done fanfiction, published on Wattpad, fell for a publishing scam, and lost way more money with literature than I earned. What can you do, right? But I also helped create an artistic movement that has become one of the main references in Brazilian speculative fiction in recent years, and I'm very, very proud of that. I've published over 20 works, including individual and collective projects, and I also have a newsletter about horror in cinema and literature, called Terror com dendê.
I did theater, circus, and music for two years in a project for underprivileged teenagers in Bahia. I participated in two plays: in one, I was a juggling street vendor; in the other, I was a cangaceiro (bandit) from Lucas da Feira's gang. I only had one line in both, but I like to believe that, in a parallel reality, I became a great actor. It was also during this time that I discovered I'm afraid of clowns. I also have a guitar (named Cleitinho) and a pandeiro (named Xandão). I'm more confident with the latter. If you need someone for a samba session, a pandeiro player is already secured.
I'm quite the nerd. I had a blog about anime and Japanese pop culture and worked as staff at geek events in Feira de Santana until I was 18. I did a bit of everything, but my thing was the origami workshops. I can make cranes, jumping frogs, lotus flowers, roses, beating hearts, gift boxes, cubes, three-dimensional stars, and a few others.
The longest trip I've ever taken in my life was to Bom Jesus da Lapa: 12 hours by bus. The second longest was to Santa Cruz do Capibaribe, in Pernambuco: 11 hours by bus as well. I have zero experience with international travel (but I can give you great tips on where to buy excellent rapaduras in Bom Jesus da Lapa or how to save a lot at the textile shopping mall in Santa Cruz).
I love soccer. I'm a supporter of Esporte Clube Bahia (also known as the universe), but before that, I supported Palmeiras, my dad's team. I adore soccer and like to follow as many games and leagues as possible.
I have a cat named Jorge Caboclo (Jorginho for short, Poscoto for the very close ones), the naughtiest cat in the building, and I talk about him most of the time because he takes up a lot of space in my little heart.
There are so many stories to tell, like the one about the neighbor's dog that almost took a chunk out of my calf. Most of them would take up too much space in text. But I hope we have some time to exchange ideas (remind me to tell you about the dog, it's pretty cool).
